Wisconsin Governor Jeremiah Rusk, becomes the second Secretary of Agriculture after the first Secretary dies suddenly. Rusk establishes the Office of Fiber Investigations within the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Lyster Dewey


USDA hires Lyster Dewey as an Assistant Botanist. Dewey later headed the Office of Fiber Investigations.
